An Illustrated Perspective of Christian Zionism
In John 5:46 Jesus said "If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me."
Very few Christians understand what Jesus meant. If they did, they would straight away know (yes, from this verse alone) that Christian Zionism is not Christianity at all.
Moses wrote the first five books of the Old Testament, the 'Torah' to Jews and the 'Pentateuch' to Christians. Jesus is indeed saying that these books are about Him. Jews (i.e., Judaism) reject Christ and DO NOT interpret the Torah this way. By their interpretation of the Torah, Jews see themselves as God's special and chosen people above all races on earth, and have the God-given mandate to claim what they interpret as God's eternal promises to them. However, based on John 5:46, Christians are supposed to understand the glorious salvation plan of God through Jesus Christ right in those same pages. For example, the most misused, hijacked, and abused verse that Christian Zionists use is of course none other than Genesis 12:3 "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you" Christians should confidently interpret this promise of blessing as salvation through Christ, the curse is of course sin and the destruction it brings with it. It is all about Christ, not the politics of Israel.
The irony and tragedy for many Christians is that they totally miss this message and instead agree with Judaism's interpretation. They then become easy victims of political manipulation, all the time believing they are serving God.

How Christian Zionism impacts us
Most Christians do not have a clear perspective of this subject because it has a complex history. Yet, every Christian person is affected by it to some degree. Most people just do not understand the astounding and profound impact this modern day belief has on the lives of millions of others that Jesus calls us to love.
To understand how Christian Zionism came about historically would require much reading and research. To understand how the Israel lobby groups use and manipulate this phenomenon in mainstream Christianity is even more astonishing.
Whenever in doubt, Christians should always remember the attributes of God's holy character. God is merciful and kind. He is just and compassionate, and he expects that his children do likewise. You do not need to have deep Bible knowledge to understand this. If you are called to action and your actions directly or indirectly result in the death and suffering of others or if you are called to support fighting or wars, you will know that this is not of God. This is a golden rule to remember.
